"I'm drawn towards the documentary power photography provides; its ability - in a fraction of a second, to exposures taken over minutes, hours or days - to capture a sense of place, time, person, feeling, and convey these concepts to others. Good photographs transcend the boundaries of 2-dimensional presentation; they act as portals allowing the viewer to move between realities. I strive to capture images which facilitate this shift - that relate the cultural narrative of different places, times, people and experience - and hint at the underlying presence that unites all of these narratives into one."

India, Mahabalipuram. July/31/2005. Talking with boys on the beaches of Mahabalipuram, approximately 7 months after it was struck by the Tsunami. Although the Tsunami claimed lives, and most of the homes in their fishing village, life had more or less returned to the norm - including backflips into the ocean! Owen Murray © 2005
